We all have a part to play to protect consumers who borrow money. The following general guidance aims to help you refer people responsibly.

How to refer responsibly

As an approved referrer, you can refer your network to Unloan and earn a financial benefit. The Unloan Home Loan Referral program relies on the exemptions outlined in NCCP Regulation 25. Please read and understand the relevant regulation(s) and how they apply to you. It is up to you to ensure that your Nominees also follow the same guidance (your Referral Agreement explains the concept of Nominees if you need a refresh).

We have categorised the requirements into three simple categories:

Inform, Give, Disclose

1. Inform your network that Unloan can offer home loan products.

When you are providing your unique referral link to your client, the only information you can share is that Unloan is a provider of home loans. You may also mention that Unloan is part of Commonwealth Bank (CBA).

2. Give information about how your network can contact Unloan i.e. your unique referral link. When you provide your unique link to a client, you can use various channels such as email, phone, your website, or social media.

3. Disclose that you will receive a financial benefit if their loan settles, at the same time you provide your unique referral link to the client.

Disclosure must be made in the same form as the way you gave information to your network in Step 2 (Give). For example, if you:

  • Share your unique referral link on a social media post, you will also need to disclose that you receive a financial benefit in the description of the same post.

  • Provide your unique referral link via email, then you must provide your disclosure within the same email.

  • Discuss about your unique referral link over the phone, you must follow up with written communication where you provide the customer with the link and inform them about you potentially receiving a financial benefit.

Remember

Your unique referral link will direct them to our website where all product information and features are available for review.

You should never:

  • Provide any details about the Unloan product, including our rate or any features.

  • Suggest or recommend that the customer should use Unloan - you should only inform the customer about Unloan i.e. ‘checking Unloan out’ or ‘having a look’.
